Bit about me:

I am an Old Fashioned Fortune Teller reading ordinary playing cards with 2 Jokers. This style is called Cartomancy, an ancient style of reading cards. I am based in Dromana Victoria. Throughout the ages divining has had the purpose of being able to see the unseeable and know the unknowable. Every culture all over the world has some technique of looking into the future. Stones, bones, crystals, coffee grounds, clouds, leaves, tea leaves, dice, sand, flowers, lard and porrridge all have shared a history in divining.  

Plato once said Divinary Skills " was a direct communion between Men and their Gods', I guess that makes me the Broker. Kind of like a Telecommunications Customer Service Officer, 'cept I'm not going to put you on hold and subject you to 20 minutes of funeral music!!

Card reading was taught to me by my Yorkshire born Grand mother as her Grand Mother taught her. I have been reading an ordinary 52 card deck for over 30 years. The cards can warn you and tell you to be aware. I like to combine the reading with logic. The cards are an amazing divining tool to inform the Queriant (The person I am reading for, as they have a query) to keep an eye out for trouble (3 spades). Also the cards can foretell of pleasant events like a birth, the sex of a child, a marriage, a lottery win or new love or warn you of an old one. 

Cartomancy using standard playing cards was the most popular form of divining in the 16th to the 18th century. In recent years the popularity of Tarot readings has diminished to a certain degree the popularity of the once common Cartomancy readings using standard playing cards.

Die hard Cartomancy readers like myself believe that a card deck is sacred and should never be used for any other purpose than reading. In general terms devout playing card readers believe that a deck of cards should be treated with respect and that the cards should not be touched by anyone but their owner and handled with care by the reader. Hence the fact I supply all customers with a new deck of cards, a hand crafted bag, a notebook or tape.

 My style is a traditional Inherited Gypsy Fortune Telling style taught to me by my family. There are other spreads using 32, 36, 38 and 52 cards or including the Jokers. And there are other interpretations that have their origins in Russian, Polish, Romanian, Italian, French, Spanish and Chinese cultures.

Some cultures will split the cards in threes. There are many different styles out there, dependent on the nationality of the reader.

In concluding there is much amusement and interest in studying Cartomancy. In the hands of experienced person the meanings of the cards come alive, becoming vivid and convincing. While in the hands of others there appears no rhyme or reason to the cards of a carefully shuffled pack. At the end of the day we may call things what we will but strange coincidences appear at every turn and shuffle...............
